Actor Dennis Haskins, renowned for his role as Principal Richard Belding in the television series Saved by the Bell, has died at 75. His agent, Jay Schachter, described the event as a “tragic loss.” The specific cause of his death remains undisclosed.
“Everyone loved Mr. Belding, and those of us who got to know Dennis loved him even more,” Schachter told People magazine. “He was a great person who truly cherished his fans. He always made time for them. As my client and dear friend for over two decades, his absence will be deeply felt. It’s heartbreaking.”
Dimples Karaoke, a now-closed bar in Burbank, California, where Haskins was a regular, paid homage to him on Instagram. “Dennis was a mainstay at Dimples. Many believed he owned the bar, but he simply loved the place and its patrons. He enjoyed singing, meeting people, and taking selfies with admirers. Though Dimples closed roughly 11 years ago, people still link him with his cherished ‘second home.’ While widely recognized as Mr. Belding from Saved by the Bell, he was more than that to us,” the bar noted. “His journey ended late last night. Now he is at peace, probably entertaining those above. For those who reached out to him in recent years, know that I relayed your messages and you were heard.”
Haskins portrayed the principal in nearly 90 episodes of Saved by the Bell from 1989 to 1992.
