President Donald Trump declared that he would effectively safeguard against rogue artificial intelligence (AI), dismissing limitations on the technology as part of a harmful plot. Trump’s stance opposes tech leaders like Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, and Elon Musk, who advocate for greater government oversight of AI.
These tech leaders aim to ensure AI’s development promotes safety, addresses legal liability, fosters economic growth, advances science, and maintains national security. Recent hacks have raised concerns about AI, with instances of AI agents potentially deceiving humans.
Trump emphasized that his leadership should ease fears regarding AI. He expressed on social media that a strong and intelligent president is the only necessary safeguard for AI.
The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!
Trump highlighted that his administration has already intervened with Anthropic to prevent potentially harmful actions. The Pentagon had previously labeled Anthropic’s models as a security risk, leading to a temporary ban on one advanced model.
Amodei released an essay urging slower AI development, while Microsoft published a code of conduct to prioritize human control over AI. Nevertheless, Trump opposes restricting AI, arguing that doing so might allow China to surpass the United States in AI advancements.
Trump commented that the complications surrounding AI and data centers are conspiring against progress, with China benefiting from these limitations.
There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China.
He underscored his belief in a free press as essential to a functioning democracy.
