Green Bay Packers’ Struggles Continue with Loss to Vikings

The Green Bay Packers faced off against the Minnesota Vikings in their first significant game since a disappointing Wild-Card loss to the Chicago Bears, where they were outscored 25-6 in the fourth quarter, losing 31-27.

Following their playoff exit last January, the Packers extended contracts for head coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst. Despite these extensions, the season opener on Sunday saw the Packers lead the Vikings 22-10 in the third quarter. However, the Vikings, with backup quarterback Carson Wentz, scored the final 29 points, clinching a 39-22 victory in front of 66,940 fans at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The loss marks a six-game losing streak for the Packers. During this stretch, Green Bay has lost double-digit leads twice to the Bears, once to the Denver Broncos, and again to the Vikings.

Some fans are expressing frustration with the way the Packers are losing games. Steve “Homer” True, during a discussion on ESPN Madison, suggested that the Packers should consider firing LaFleur despite the recent contract extension. He criticized LaFleur’s tendency to lose leads and questioned his ability to safely manage games.

“You are making a coach something he’s not,” True stated. “He’s capable of blowing the game at any time, regardless of the lead.”

True urged that LaFleur should possibly be let go immediately, citing doubts over his ability to maintain game leads.

Despite the criticism, it may be too soon for the Packers to consider terminating LaFleur’s contract before Week 2. The team has early-season adjustments to make. Improved performance is expected when Micah Parsons returns from his ACL injury and if Josh Jacobs is removed from the commissioner exempt list.
