After a busy playoff season supporting the New York Knicks, Timothee Chalamet is set to return to work. The acclaimed actor, known for his multiple Oscar nominations, is teaming up with Selena Gomez in the upcoming Illumination animated movie titled “Not Alone.” The film, which will be released in 2027 by Universal Studios, highlights Chalamet as Joe, described as an introverted rocket mechanic living a secluded life.
On the other hand, Selena Gomez will portray Fran, a talented astro-botanist developing a plant-fueled rocket, as reported by Deadline. The film’s announcement took place at the Annecy Film Festival in France. According to the synopsis, Joe and Fran’s collaboration on a groundbreaking rocket launch sparks a unique connection, albeit both struggle with romance. Moreover, their lives become complicated when three delightful aliens—Dunk, Welly, and Shirm—take refuge in Joe’s home. These aliens are fleeing from Zandro, a fervent yet bumbling officer of the law, and see the potential in Fran’s rocket to return to their home planet.
The film is set to be directed by Eric Guillon, co-director of “Despicable Me 3.” While many celebrated the announcement, the unexpected pairing of Chalamet and Gomez surprised numerous fans. One fan commented, “Insane pairing we all never expected.” Another remarked on the unexpected collaboration with Illumination, whereas a social media user expressed, “This plot sounds so chaotic and cute at the same time!”
However, there were some personal remarks as well. A user referred to a rumor from the 2024 Golden Globes about a potential photo incident involving Gomez and Chalamet, with Kylie Jenner allegedly involved. Addressing this, Chalamet affirmed that all parties involved had good relations when queried by TMZ.
Despite past speculations, the forthcoming film promises to showcase plenty of screen time shared by Chalamet and Gomez, potentially bringing an exciting dynamic to audiences.
