John Goodman’s Dramatic Weight Loss Journey

Actor John Goodman is surprising fans with a remarkable change in his appearance. The 74-year-old was seen almost unrecognizable in a recent photo alongside actor David DeLuise, taken after a chance meeting at a grocery store.

DeLuise, known for his role as Jerry Russo on Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place,” shared the image on Instagram, showing Goodman looking significantly slimmer. DeLuise expressed his admiration, commenting, “He was my childhood!! Legend!”

Goodman, famous for his role on “Roseanne,” has been publicly open about his efforts to lose weight over the years. At his heaviest, he was nearing 400 pounds and struggled with maintaining weight loss. In 2010, he announced a major breakthrough, having lost over 100 pounds by eliminating sugar from his diet and committing to a strict workout regime that included exercising six days a week.

In an interview with ABC News in 2016, Goodman described curbing his habit of constant eating. “I just stopped eating all the time,” he shared. He recounted previously losing large amounts of weight, only to revert to old habits, like drinking.

Boxing and daily walks have become part of his exercise routine. “I never got good enough to spar because once I get whacked in the face, I don’t know if I wouldn’t lose it,” Goodman shared with The Rolling Stone in 2023.

Additionally, Goodman credits his sobriety as a key part of his transformation. He gave up alcohol in 2007 after years of struggle, driven by a desire to improve his life. His personal trainer, Mackie Shilstone, explained that Goodman follows a Mediterranean-style diet and consistently incorporates exercise into his routine.

The actor continues to be candid about his past, sharing that striving for excellence in his craft sometimes led to detrimental behaviors.
