New Jersey Voter Fraud Sparks Renewed Call for SAVE Act

Congressman Chip Roy emphasizes the urgent need for the Save America Act to secure federal elections. He draws attention to a software issue in New Jersey that led to 6,600 non-citizens registering to vote, with hundreds participating in elections. Roy argues this highlights the necessity for voter ID, a measure backed by 80% of Americans, urging the Senate to pass the bill.

Recent arrests related to election offenses among non-citizens counter Democratic assertions that such incidents are rare. This comes amidst debates over the SAVE Act, which mandates citizenship proof for voter registration in federal elections. Democrats claim this would obstruct eligible voters.

Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, D-Pa., previously downplayed the issue, yet arrests in Philadelphia County, part of her jurisdiction, challenge her position. Notable cases include Joshua Kofi Edzie of Ghana, charged with voting-related offenses, and Sade Guppy, who allegedly voted illegally in the 2022 midterms.

Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the indictment of 10 foreign nationals for voter fraud in Minnesota, reinforcing the non-partisan need for election integrity.

Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., labels non-citizen voting as uncommon, criticizing the SAVE Act as harmful to voters, yet arrests suggest otherwise. Meanwhile, delays in voter registration processing remain an issue.

Commentary from Rep. Joe Morelle, D-N.Y., and others characterizes the SAVE Act as voter suppression, while New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill acknowledged the presence of non-citizen voters.

A Homeland Security spokesperson declined to comment on ongoing investigations but affirmed commitment to eliminating election fraud.

White House spokesperson Lauren Bis reiterated the necessity for only citizens to influence elections, as debates intensify with upcoming elections.
