Republican Representative Andy Ogles is navigating a challenging primary in Tennessee against Charlie Hatcher. Hatcher, the state’s former agriculture commissioner, has secured an endorsement from Governor Bill Lee. Only one public poll, conducted by Tusk Strategies, indicates a close race. It shows Ogles with 37% support, compared to Hatcher’s 33%, surveying 400 likely Republican voters from July 26-28, with a 5% margin of error. Despite this, forecasters like the Cook Political Report and Sabato’s Crystal Ball consider the district safe for the GOP nominee, given Trump’s previous 23-point win there.

On the Democratic front, Columbia Mayor Chaz Molder emerges as a leading candidate, endorsed by former Governor Phil Bredesen and Representative Steve Cohen, who is not seeking reelection. In March, Ogles faced backlash after claiming Muslims “don’t belong in American society,” drawing criticism from Richard Grenell, a special Trump envoy, who urged respect for the First Amendment.
