After a 12-year journey as an NFL assistant, Mike LaFleur has taken on the role of head coach for the Arizona Cardinals. His coaching path began in 2014 with the Cleveland Browns as an offensive intern. In 2015, he advanced to become an offensive assistant with the Atlanta Falcons. His first significant role was with the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 as a passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach.
In 2021, LaFleur took over as the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets and continued in a similar role with the Los Angeles Rams in 2023. Now, he is leading the Cardinals as their head coach.
Before making his debut in Arizona, Mike received a visit from his brother Matt LaFleur, head coach of the Green Bay Packers. The two brothers shared a heartfelt moment witnessed by NBC viewers.
“Hey man, you’ve earned this opportunity,” Matt said. “Go let it rip, have fun, and I’m proud of you buddy. I love you, man.”
Mike responded, taken aback by the emotion of the moment.
“I did not expect that right there,” Mike said. “I appreciate that, guys. That’s pretty cool. I appreciate that. Now you’ve got me a little emotional.”
The Hall of Fame game showed some promising moments, but the Cardinals ended with a tight 33-30 loss to the Carolina Panthers, featuring mostly reserve players.
If Mike achieves similar success to his brother, he’d be pleased. In his seven seasons with the Packers, Matt LaFleur has a 76-40-1 record, with six playoff appearances, four seasons with double-digit wins, three division titles, and two NFC Championship Game appearances.
