Mike Vrabel, as head coach of the Tennessee Titans, reached the playoffs three times but never secured a Super Bowl spot. The closest encounter was the AFC Championship Game in 2019, where the Titans were defeated 35-24 by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Vrabel’s inaugural season with the New England Patriots was marked by immediate success, leading the team to a Super Bowl appearance. Despite the achievement, the Patriots lost 29-13.

In a recent episode of Terron Armstead’s “The Set,” Titans All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons confessed his envy over Vrabel’s early triumphs with New England. “Was I surprised?” Simmons remarked. “Man, I think we all would be surprised if this guy, first year in New England, they go straight to the Super Bowl. First off, I’m jealous as hell. Like what? … I was just with you four years, and you couldn’t get me to the Super Bowl?”

Both the Titans and Patriots thrived on strong defensive play, yet the Patriots boasted an MVP-caliber quarterback, Drake Maye, who energized their offense.

After parting ways with Vrabel, the Titans recorded back-to-back seasons with a 3-14 record. They now look to new head coach Robert Saleh to revive their fortunes.

Questions have surfaced regarding Vrabel’s leadership and ability to maintain solid locker room relationships amid off-field challenges. However, Simmons emphasized Vrabel’s strength in building player relationships. “One of the things when you build that relationship off the football field, that’s the biggest thing with Vrabel,” Simmons commented. “And I can feel this; it’s the same with Saleh.”

Simmons believes that Vrabel’s rapport with players motivates them to give their best on the field. This is the quality Vrabel intends to bring to training camp following a challenging spring.
