Deadly Missile and Drone Attack on Kyiv

Updated on July 6, 2026, authorities reported that at least 10 people died and 46 were injured when Russia targeted Kyiv with missile and drone strikes overnight into Monday. This attack followed Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s warning of an imminent large-scale assault.

Emergency crews searched through debris at residential high-rise locations in Kyiv, which suffered direct hits. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, highlighted the devastating impact on residential areas as buildings in the Podilskyi district partially collapsed and those in Darnytsia saw severe damage, with individuals possibly trapped under the rubble.

While the attack persisted early Monday morning, involving ballistic and cruise missiles along with drones, Kyiv’s citizens sought safety within subway stations amidst the citywide explosions. The assault came days after another Russian strike killed at least 31 in Kyiv and on the eve of a NATO summit in Turkey.

President Zelenskyy emphasized the need for Western support in strengthening Ukraine’s air defense systems, particularly through providing additional Patriot missiles. He asserted that without replenishment, Russia might continue the four-year conflict. His message underscored the urgency of international assistance following the largest attack since Moscow’s initial full-scale invasion.
