Dusty May Set to Join Dallas Mavericks from College Basketball

DALLAS — Dusty May, coach of the national champion Michigan Wolverines, is on the brink of transitioning from college basketball to the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks. A credible source, who spoke under the condition of anonymity as the agreement isn’t finalized, revealed this information on Monday.

May piloted the Wolverines to an NCAA championship victory over UConn with a score of 69-63 in April, concluding a remarkable 34-3 season. The team set a record by averaging at least 90 points across five consecutive NCAA Tournament games. This achievement follows May’s prior success leading Florida Atlantic to their sole Final Four presence three years earlier. The Owls also made a return to the NCAA tournament in 2024 before May transitioned to Michigan.

He succeeds Jason Kidd, who was dismissed two weeks following Masai Ujiri’s appointment as president of basketball operations and alternate governor of the Mavericks.

In a related development, Michigan Athletic Director stated that Dusty May has agreed to extend his tenure with the Wolverines for several years.
