On Monday, President Donald Trump issued a warning about vandalism occurring on the National Mall, focusing on the ‘8647’ marking visible on the grass. This incident is connected to other reports of damage near the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

The ‘8647’ sequence was first observed on the National Mall lawn on June 11. Authorities responded quickly, finding these numbers etched into the browned grass, and began investigating the cause.

Problems at the reflecting pool arose soon after its reopening in early June. After a $14 million renovation, algae blooms and peeling blue paint appeared within days. These events coincide with ongoing investigations into vandalism and arrests related to pool area activities.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump highlighted the strict penalties for any destruction. He stated, ‘Of the MANY Statues and Fountains that we rebuilt, renovated, cleaned, and fixed, the only one that was Vandalized was the Reflecting Pool, which is being taken care of, ASAP!’ He noted the 300-foot gash, illegally placed chemicals, and the ‘gigantic 86 47’ carved into the grass field, possibly linked to a reference about James Comey.

Trump reminded the public of the ten-year prison sentence for any destruction or attempts to destroy these landmarks, assuring full enforcement of this penalty.
