Kyiv, Ukraine — During a round-the-clock assault, Russian forces targeted several sites in Ukraine, resulting in seven deaths and over 50 injuries, Ukrainian officials reported on Monday. Their attacks aimed at various structures, including residential apartments, office spaces, data centers, and the National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv.

CBS News journalist Aidan Stretch had to take shelter shortly after arriving on the scene of the Academy strike due to ongoing Russian bombardment. The attack on the science academy, located in central Kyiv, showcased brazen aggression, contributing to widespread fire and smoke damage.

“Ukraine will have to pay a price for the actions that have taken place in recent months,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated to reporters.

Attempts to initiate peace talks at the United Nations have seen little progress, hampered by conflict developments and political strain. The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, accused Europe of obstructing U.S.-led peace efforts in his recent U.N. address, highlighting divisions within NATO.

Russian Drone Attacks Cause Fatalities and Injuries

Official sources confirmed that Russian drone attacks caused significant casualties in various regions. In Kyiv, four civilians, including one woman, lost their lives due to strikes in areas such as the Shevchenkivskyi district and key facilities like the National Academy of Sciences. Russian military forces targeted additional sites, including a pharmaceutical company and gas stations.

In central Dnipro, a drone attack during business hours affected an office center, killing three individuals and injuring at least twelve others. Kharkiv experienced similar devastation when an apartment complex was hit, leaving 43 people, including 11 children, wounded. In Chernihiv, a residential district suffered from drone activity, injuring four, including two teenagers.

Russia’s Strategic Strikes and Economic Impact

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed attacks on two Kyiv-based data centers and gas stations, in addition to disrupting operations at Nova Poshta’s distribution hub in Odesa. They reported strikes against cargo vessels in the Black Sea and Chornomorsk port, actions potentially impacting Ukraine’s grain exports and wider food supply insecurity.

Moscow claims efforts are strictly against military targets, despite frequent civilian zone impacts.

Military Movements and Tactical Gains

Despite stagnant positional changes along the 800-mile front line, Ukraine’s recent “Operation Vivaldi” offensive made effective use of converted armored vehicles and robotic ground forces, regaining a total of 68 square miles in the Donetsk region.

In response, Russia announced the capture of settlements in both Donetsk and Sumy, although independent verification remains elusive.

Ukrainian Long-Range Efforts Strike Russian Facilities

President Zelenskyy confirmed successful long-range drone strikes against infrastructure within Russia, including defense plants and oil facilities located in regions like Tula, Voronezh, and Krasnodar. These actions disrupted critical components of Russia’s economy and military strategy.

A Ukrainian overnight drone initiative caused fires at three Krasnodar region infrastructure sites, intensifying cross-border tensions. Russia’s Defense Ministry reported the interception of 254 Ukrainian drones during the same period.
