ICE Agent Involved in Shooting in Austin, Texas

A man has been hospitalized after being shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Austin, Texas, on Sunday. Local officials confirmed the incident.

In a video interview with KVUE, Austin City Council Member Mike Siegel stated, “I’ve heard from someone that an ICE vehicle boxed in a civilian vehicle, sideswiped it by the side, and then an ICE officer shot the driver of the vehicle.” Siegel added that bullet holes were visible in the back of the vehicle and that the person was taken to the hospital about an hour prior.

The current medical condition of the man is unknown, and details regarding the circumstances leading to the shooting have not been disclosed.

Siegel emphasized, “My top concern right now is that this gets investigated properly.” He mentioned that although this is primarily a federal crime scene, he wants the city police involved to ensure public confidence in the investigation.

Officials plan to hold a press conference at 4 p.m. local time to provide further details on the incident.

Video on social media seems to show an ICE agent with a weapon exiting a black vehicle and approaching a blue car. The blue car appears to have damage on the passenger side.

The Austin Police Department directed Newsweek inquiries to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regarding the shooting. Newsweek reached out to DHS for more information.

Democratic Representative Greg Casar wrote on X, “The horror has come to our city: ICE has shot a person in Austin this morning.” He called for a thorough, independent investigation and the release of body camera footage, insisting on accountability.

Casar asserted that ICE has a history of shooting incidents and demanded truth and transparency.

Texas state Representative Vikki Goodwin also commented on X, mentioning that “another ICE-related shooting” took place in North Austin and confirmed the victim’s hospitalization. She noted Austin police were managing traffic at the scene and additional information would follow.

Sunday’s shooting is one of the numerous incidents involving federal agents since President Donald Trump began his second term in 2025.
