The Stanley Cup Final matchup between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights has delivered intense action. The series returned to Raleigh for Game 5, tied at 2-2 after four thrilling contests.
Game 5 started slower than earlier games, but penalties remained a constant issue. Just before the midpoint of the first period, a penalty gave Vegas an opportunity. Pavel Dorofeyev from the Golden Knights capitalized with a power-play goal, receiving a pass from Jack Eichel.
Carolina quickly responded. Jordan Staal, the Hurricanes captain, continued his impressive scoring streak, redirecting a pass from Nikolaj Ehlers to even the score. This marked Staal’s fifth consecutive game with a goal, tying the record for the longest scoring streak in Stanley Cup Final history.
The second period saw Carolina continuing to face penalties, such as a delay-of-game infraction. However, Vegas’ back-to-back penalties shifted the momentum. Andrei Svechnikov scored a power-play goal, putting the Hurricanes ahead 2-1.
Svechnikov’s performance was critical as Carolina extended their lead. His second goal of the night came after Mark Stone of Vegas committed a high-stick penalty, earning a double minor. Sebastian Aho also found the net during the period.
Vegas struggled with penalties throughout the third period. Despite a second goal from Dorofeyev, cutting the lead to two, Carolina’s defense held firm. A late penalty on Nikolaj Ehlers offered Vegas a 6-on-4 power play, but Hurricanes’ goalie Bussi made key saves, maintaining the lead.
Carolina concluded Game 5 with a 4-2 victory, leading the series 3-2. The next game takes place at T-Mobile Arena, where the Hurricanes will seek their second Stanley Cup victory.
