ABC has received backlash after Ana Navarro, co-host of “The View,” encouraged viewers to support a Democrat in an important Florida congressional race. Navarro highlighted the competitive race between current Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, R-Fla., and Democratic candidate Elliott Rodriguez in Florida’s 27th district.
Navarro remarked on the narrowing gap in the race. Two years ago, Salazar won by 20 points in this district, which former President Donald Trump carried by 15 points. Yet now, polls show a much closer contest. She emphasized the significance of the race to residents in areas like Coral Gables, Miami, and Key Biscayne. “And we can actually knock this woman out,” Navarro stated, referring to Salazar. “There’s a great guy running. His name is Elliott Rodriguez. Give him a look!”
Reactions from critics accuse ABC of “electioneering,” questioning if Navarro’s statements breach broadcast licensing regulations. Ben Domenech, Daily Wire opinion editor, questioned on social media if her guidance was permissible. Media Research Center President David Bozell and Tim Young from the Heritage Foundation voiced strong disapproval.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has long scrutinized “The View,” debating if such programs qualify as “bona fide news,” which would exempt them from political candidates’ equal time rules. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr had previously begun an investigation into ABC’s “The View” concerning these requirements.
Navarro is known for her outspoken political views and has openly criticized Trump. She has also participated as a host at the Democratic National Convention in 2024. ABC News and the FCC did not comment when contacted by Fox News Digital.
