A police officer in Upper Pottsgrove Township, Pennsylvania, shot and killed a 22-year-old man after responding to a reported attempted break-in on Snyder Road. The incident occurred on August 23, and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office has identified the victim as Glenwood Earl Pysher IV.
Prosecutors reported that a 911 call alerted the police to a possible break-in around 12:29 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found a man behind the house. An ‘encounter’ ensued, resulting in the police shooting and killing Pysher.
Erin Pysher, Glenwood’s mother, shared that her son mistakenly entered the wrong backyard, believing it to be his friend’s home. She stated that he was on the phone with friends for two minutes before the shooting occurred.
“It’s a small error that cost him his life. It should never have happened,” Erin Pysher said. “The police should not have resorted to such force. He was unarmed, not attempting any dangerous or malicious act. The situation escalated too quickly,” she added.
Glenwood Pysher was previously a baseball player for Northampton County Community College. He was planning to transfer to St. Elizabeth College in New Jersey to continue playing baseball and pursue history teaching. His mother mentioned that he had recently turned 22 on August 10 and was looking forward to starting school, playing baseball, and living his life.
The district attorney’s office is investigating the incident and plans to provide an update once the investigation is complete.
