The National Park Service (NPS) is probing a serious incident at Yosemite National Park. Reports indicate a 23-year-old man suffered a severe fall at Nevada Fall, a treacherous area marked by steep drops and strong waterfalls.

Witnesses online suggested the fall could have been fatal. The NPS confirmed the incident, stating it happened on June 20, 2026. Park dispatch received reports about someone going over the fall, prompting rangers and Yosemite Search and Rescue teams to respond. Recovery operations took place below the fall.

Social media users shared accounts of the incident. One Reddit user mentioned being present when the accident occurred. They described seeing friends pulled by the current near the top of Nevada Fall. A girl was rescued using a branch, yet another person was swept over the fall trying to save her.

The witness detailed the event saying, “A bunch of friends were dragged by the current. The girl was saved, but another person went with the current over the fall.” A helicopter and rescue teams arrived within an hour to search and provide aid.

Nevada Fall poses significant danger due to its slippery granite and forceful water currents, which descend roughly 600 feet. Reports highlight the area’s risks, with another visitor noting, “The granite is slippery and the currents are strong.” Another comment added that survival from such a fall is unlikely, even with safety gear, due to the hazardous conditions.
