Independence Day celebrations across the United States were marred by violent incidents, resulting in the deaths of several individuals and injuries to many others across various cities.

Brooklyn, New York

In Brooklyn’s Coney Island neighborhood, a gunman wearing a black ski mask opened fire at a family barbecue late Saturday night. Eight people were wounded, including four children. Seven victims are expected to survive, but a 21-year-old woman remains in critical condition after being shot in the chest. The shooter fled on foot and authorities are working to apprehend him.

Pensacola, Florida

In downtown Pensacola, gunfire killed a 19-year-old and injured six others early Sunday morning. Pensacola Police Chief Eric Winstrom stated the attack appeared to be targeted, though no suspects are in custody. The age of the victims ranged from 16 to 26, with the youngest victim being 16 years old.

Fort Wayne, Indiana

After 3 a.m. Sunday in Fort Wayne, police found a woman dead and eight adults with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds in the 2200 block of Oliver Street. Investigations are ongoing.

Compton, California

In Compton, a party at an apartment complex resulted in the deaths of a woman and a man, and injuries to three others on Saturday night. The victims were on the 700 block of West Laurel Street. The injured, including a man in critical condition, were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Dayton, Ohio

Four individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a shooting on July 3 in Dayton’s Oregon District. The incident occurred after businesses closed and police officers ended their shifts for the night.

Canton, Ohio

In Canton, a 46-year-old woman was critically injured while asleep in bed when a suspect fired a gun into the air. Authorities arrested Darius J. Leishman, 24, on multiple charges, including felonious assault. Canton Police Chief John Gabbard condemned the dangers of celebratory gunfire.

St. Louis, Missouri

A 17-year-old was killed in a Saturday morning shooting in St. Louis. Two 16-year-old victims were also hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

Chino, California

In Chino, a fireworks explosion resulted in one death and left two others critically injured. A vehicle on D Street was found ablaze from ignited fireworks. Derion Tradon James Jr., 28, faces involuntary manslaughter charges as investigations continue.
