US Forces Target Iranian Military Amid Tensions in Strait of Hormuz

On Sunday, U.S. military forces targeted two Iranian launchers. These launchers, located on Larak Island, belonged to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. They were reportedly preparing to launch rockets fitted with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz. This information was shared by U.S. Navy Captain Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), in an email conversation with Newsweek.

Captain Hawkins highlighted recent actions, explaining that CENTCOM cleared sea mines from international shipping routes in the strait last week. He assured that U.S. forces continue to closely monitor the area. Their focus remains on ensuring the free flow of commerce through this crucial maritime passage.

This military action follows a period of ceasefire between the two nations. The strike has prompted Tehran to vow retaliation. According to Iranian state media, reported by Reuters, the attack resulted in casualties among soldiers and civilians. However, specific numbers are not yet available.

There will be a ‘response and punishment’ from Tehran, Reuters stated, referencing Iranian state media.

The Strait of Hormuz stands central in this ongoing conflict. It serves as a vital route for the global transportation of oil and goods.

This is a developing story. Further updates are expected.
