An unidentified object crashed and exploded in Poland after a series of long-range attacks by Russia across Ukraine. The crash took place near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in Lublin province, according to Polish police.

Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, confirmed that the incident occurred during Russia’s missile assault on western Ukraine. He also noted a violation of Polish airspace. However, it remains uncertain whether the object was a Russian missile.

Poland’s military reported that its air defenses detected at least a dozen missiles over western Ukraine, close to Polish airspace, overnight. The Russian Ministry of Defense declared they had initiated strikes using “long-range precision weapons from land, air, and sea” in addition to attack drones aimed at military targets in Ukraine.

As a NATO member, Poland is under the protection of Article 5. This clause considers an attack on one member as an attack on all. Russian drones and missiles have previously entered NATO territories during the Ukraine conflict. This development will challenge the alliance’s pledge to collective defense.
