Trump’s Push for Expanded Middle East Peace Agreements

President Trump has called for additional Middle Eastern countries to join the Abraham Accords. These U.S.-brokered agreements have normalized relations between Israel and several Arab states. Trump considers them a major diplomatic achievement of his first term.

Trump’s statements on social media emphasize how broader cooperation in the Middle East could be strengthened with more countries joining. He suggested that even Iran might consider joining the accords. He also urged Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Pakistan to prepare to enter the agreement.

Since his re-election in 2024, Trump’s efforts to expand the accords have seen limited success. Kazakhstan joined in November, although it already maintained full diplomatic relations with Israel.

Expanding the accords might address the concerns of those critical of Trump’s peace negotiations with Iran. Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, has expressed concerns about peace deals with Iran. He nevertheless welcomed the possibility of Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations normalizing relations with Israel. He stated it could be a historic and significant agreement aimed at isolating Iran.

Despite the calls for expansion, analysts suggest that Saudi Arabia and other states are unlikely to join soon, especially amid ongoing conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
