Republican Representative Tom Kean Jr. Re-engages Amid Health Concerns

Republican officials have recently reported communication with Representative Tom Kean Jr., who has been absent from Congress for almost 12 weeks. Kean has been dealing with an undisclosed medical condition as he navigates a significant re-election campaign. Although he has started reconnecting with political leaders, the details surrounding his health remain unclear.

On Thursday, Carlos Santos received a call from Kean at 4:52 p.m. Shortly after, Joe LaBarbera also heard from him while in his car. LaBarbera, the Sussex County Republican chairman, asked Kean if he needed anything. Kean responded by requesting prayers.

Santos, the G.O.P. leader in Kean’s home county of Union, mentioned that Kean appeared positive during their brief conversation. He noted that Kean sounded healthy and seemed eager to return to the campaign trail. Both Santos and LaBarbera remarked that Kean expects a complete recovery, although the specific nature of his health issue has not been disclosed.
