President Trump criticized U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s evaluation of damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. While Pirro suggested construction issues were to blame, Trump maintains vandals caused the damage.

Pirro’s office filed to drop charges against David Hearn, a former Olympian accused of damaging the pool after renovations linked to the nation’s 250th birthday celebration.

On social media, Trump conceded possible contractor issues but insisted, “The major damage was caused by VANDALS!” This disagreement marks a setback for a Justice Department that has backed Trump’s vandalism claims.

Recently disclosed documents from the Interior Department suggest a flawed installation and rushed project completion contributed to the damage. In a Friday filing, the government cited widespread damage beyond what a vandal might cause.

A video posted by Trump seemed to show individuals near the pool. Trump claimed the video shows vandalism, although the footage’s clarity and context remain uncertain. Nearby workers appeared unaware of any wrongdoing.

In May, Trump announced plans for the Reflecting Pool’s refurbishment, including a new “American flag blue” liner. However, issues arose quickly, with portions of the liner peeling, leading to vandalism accusations.

The National Park Service reported a June incident involving potential vandalism. This pool project is among several initiatives led by Trump, including a $400 million ballroom replacing the White House’s East Wing and a proposed arch near the Lincoln Memorial.
