Theo Stamos Appointed Acting U.S. Attorney Amidst Controversy

The Justice Department announced on Wednesday that Theo Stamos, a seasoned prosecutor, will take on the role of acting U.S. attorney in Virginia. This office has faced significant challenges, including staff turnover linked to President Donald Trump’s push to investigate his critics.

Theo Stamos has an extensive background in law. She has served as a prosecutor in Virginia’s state courts and held the position of commonwealth’s attorney for Arlington County and Falls Church, having been elected to this role twice. Later, she provided counsel to Republican Attorney General Jason S. Miyares.

Her new appointment highlights the Justice Department’s efforts to stabilize the office, which has been affected by controversies surrounding presidential directives.
