Stephen Colbert, a day after his final appearance on CBS’s ‘The Late Show,’ made an unexpected return to television by hosting ‘Only in Monroe,’ a community access show in southeast Michigan. The show, broadcast near Lake Erie, brought a blend of humor and Michigan-centric content.

Joining Colbert was Michigan native Jack White, who took on the role of ‘volunteer music director.’ Colbert humorously anticipated hearing White’s music if time allowed. The relaxed atmosphere included laughter from off-camera attendees.

The hour-long episode featured an interview with actor Jeff Daniels and leaned into local jokes about Michigan. A recorded segment included actor Steve Buscemi, who playfully referenced a Monroe pizza place.

Rapper Eminem, raised in Detroit, appeared in a taped segment acting as a ‘fire marshal.’ He humorously approved burning remnants of the set destroyed by Colbert, White, and Daniels at the show’s end. Colbert also spoke to comedian Byron Allen via FaceTime. Allen is set to host ‘Comics Unleashed,’ the show replacing ‘The Late Show.’

Regular hosts Michelle Baumann and former Miss America Kaye Lani Rae Rafko Wilson joined Colbert on the show. They humorously inhaled helium while discussing Baumann’s cancer battle. A warning appeared onscreen, noting, ‘Former professional TV host, do not try this at home.’

This marks Colbert’s second time hosting ‘Only in Monroe.’ He first took the helm in the summer of 2015, shortly before succeeding David Letterman on ‘The Late Show.’

The latest episode’s recording details weren’t clear, as it aired exactly 24 hours after his final ‘Late Show’ performance. Attempts to get a comment from the community access channel were unanswered.
