Seattle Protects Nonmonogamous Relationships with New Law

As of June next year, Seattle will recognize polyamorous and other nonmonogamous individuals as a protected class. The City Council reached a unanimous decision last week to prohibit discrimination against adults engaged in consensual relationships with multiple partners.

This new legislation will impact various aspects of life in Seattle. It will prevent discrimination in employment, housing, business licensing, park utilization, policing, and public accommodations.

Seattle joins a growing list of cities that have implemented similar measures. These measures aim to ensure fairness and equality for people in nonmonogamous arrangements.

The protection extends to adults in consensual relationships with more than one partner, offering a shield against prejudice that could affect their access to essential services and opportunities.
