Dr. Mehmet Oz, overseeing the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, is urging health insurers to collaborate only with brokers who record their interactions with Obamacare applicants. This request aligns with the Trump administration’s intensified efforts to curb unauthorized enrollments that reportedly cost taxpayers billions.
Vice President JD Vance stated on Tuesday that the administration’s anti-fraud task force plans to remove 750,000 fraudulent Obamacare enrollees, anticipating taxpayer savings of $2.2 billion. Dr. Oz referred to these enrollees as ‘phantom accounts,’ indicating there are no real individuals behind them. ‘Why do I think that? We reached out to them. We asked if they have filed claims or responded to inquiries. Many lack Social Security numbers, complicating our ability to determine their eligibility based on income,’ Dr. Oz explained to Fox News Digital.
The administration is advocating for insurance companies to engage in this anti-fraud initiative. ‘We’re asking insurers to work with brokers who record their conversations. What are you afraid of? Why not let us hear what was discussed?’ Dr. Oz questioned.
Vance revealed during a news conference on fraud that a federal crackdown on Affordable Care Act fraud is underway. This initiative, according to Dr. Oz, will help ensure transparency among recipients applying for Obamacare aid. The goal is to verify that applicants are genuine and qualify for the program.
The administration found 1.1 million beneficiaries of Obamacare without Social Security numbers. ‘The 760,000 accounts terminated showed the American taxpayers should not pay fraudulent brokers who lie about non-existent individuals, collect premiums, and disappear with the money,’ Dr. Oz said.
The Treasury Department has started issuing $500 refund checks to about 1 million Americans. These checks are accompanied by a letter from President Donald Trump criticizing the Biden administration for allegedly overcharging taxpayers to operate HealthCare.gov.
‘I can’t pinpoint the motivations behind undermining our regulatory efforts, but I assure you, we won’t let Americans be exploited,’ Dr. Oz concluded.
