Jed York, owner of the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested in Ohio over the weekend. He faced misdemeanor charges related to disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.
York’s arrest took place on Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio. After posting a $5,000 bond, he was released. On Monday morning, he pleaded no contest to the charges. As a result, he was sentenced to one day in jail for each offense. These sentences were to be served at the same time. York was credited with having already served one day. Additionally, he was fined $1,150.
Court documents indicate York was originally charged with engaging in prostitution. However, prosecutors amended this to disorderly conduct. The records also show that a cellphone belonging to York was returned to him. Furthermore, $160 seized from him was directed to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, as part of the plea agreement. York also completed an online course.
Both the 49ers and the NFL did not provide immediate comments following the incident.
The 46-year-old York assumed control of the 49ers’ day-to-day operations from his parents in 2008. He became the principal owner of the team in 2024. Under York’s leadership, after initial struggles, the team hired coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch in 2017, which led to consistent success.
Since then, the Niners have reached the Super Bowl three times. They lost in the 2012 season under coach Jim Harbaugh and in the 2019 and 2023 seasons with Shanahan and Lynch.
York also played a significant role in the construction of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The 49ers moved to this new stadium from San Francisco in 2014. The stadium has since hosted two Super Bowls, a World Cup event, and a College Football Playoff title game.
