On Sunday, a Southwest Airlines plane experienced an unexpected incident as a ground equipment vehicle struck it during passenger boarding. The event took place at Memphis International Airport in Tennessee, according to an airline spokesperson.
Flight 4013, the affected service, was taken out of operation afterward. Thankfully, no injuries were reported from the incident. Southwest Airlines stated, “Southwest Flight 4013 was contacted by a ground equipment vehicle during boarding today at Memphis International Airport.”
The Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority confirmed the occurrence, labeling it as isolated. The statement read, “Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority can confirm that an isolated incident occurred today at Memphis International Airport.”
Following the disruption, passengers were redirected to a different aircraft to proceed with their journey. Though a spokesperson mentioned the alternate plane would travel to Dallas, the airline’s website showed Flight 4013 resuming service to Harry Reid International Airport near Las Vegas.
Passengers faced a significant delay, departing nearly four hours later than planned. The revised arrival time was 5:30 p.m. instead of 1:50 p.m.
An investigation is underway regarding the incident, as stated by the airline. “The event will be investigated through our comprehensive Safety Management System,” Southwest Airlines assured. The company underscored the importance of safety, emphasizing, “Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of its Customers and Employees.”
