The Santa Clara County sheriff’s detectives are investigating a shooting incident that occurred Saturday at a large party in Morgan Hill. The shooting led to the death of one person and injured seven others, according to authorities.
Deputies responded to disturbances at around 10:15 p.m., triggered by intoxicated individuals on the street and another person throwing bottles at vehicles. Brooks Jarosz, representing the County of Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office, provided this information in a statement.
When deputies arrived, they found a chaotic scene with more than 300 individuals fleeing the area after gunshots were fired, Jarosz stated. Many people had been shot and required medical attention.
One of the victims was declared dead at the scene. No suspects were immediately apprehended.
This tragic and senseless violence is entirely unacceptable, Sheriff Robert Jonsen commented. Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, those recovering from their injuries, and everyone in our community affected by this traumatic event.
Authorities characterized the event as an unsanctioned party, which was promoted via social media platforms.
