An active shooting incident in downtown Midland, Texas, has resulted in at least one fatality and multiple injuries. Midland Mayor Lori Blong confirmed the situation during a news conference on Friday.

Mayor Blong stated that there are a total of 11 victims. Law enforcement has set up a perimeter around the area and advises citizens to stay away. Detailed information about the shooter’s identity or motives remains undisclosed, but authorities have contained the individual.

The FBI is involved and has dispatched agents from its Midland office, according to a bureau representative.

The incident began in southeast Midland and moved across the southern part of the city. Law enforcement responded to the scene after receiving calls at 8:03 a.m. local time.

Midland Memorial Hospital has admitted nine of the shooting victims. Of these, four are undergoing surgery, while five are in stable condition. The hospital’s main campus was locked down for about two hours as a precaution, and its emergency department remains on lockdown.
