The NFL’s ‘RedZone’ broadcast is returning for its 18th season. Host Scott Hanson has shared insights on upcoming changes, particularly regarding commercials. Previously, ‘RedZone’ was known for being commercial-free. This season, however, things will be different.
Hanson mentioned that there will be limited commercials inserted between plays. “The plan is to have a limited number of 15-second commercials only in between plays,” Hanson explained. For instance, during a Dallas Cowboys drive, a commercial might be shown when the team walks back to the huddle.
Last season, ‘RedZone’ aired 16 advertisements, significantly increasing from entirely commercial-free programming. Fears of further increasing commercials in 2026 are unfounded, according to Hanson. He said, “There will be fewer commercials at the start of the season.” Decisions beyond that are made by the NFL’s business team, as Hanson clarified, “Uncle Scott doesn’t make those decisions.”
Despite the change in format, ‘RedZone’ remains popular among fans from various sectors. Hanson shared that even past U.S. presidents have watched it. Players like Tom Brady and Josh Allen enjoy tuning in during their off days.
In addition to his on-screen work, Hanson is involved in the “Earn Your Sunday” campaign with Lowe’s, alongside Dak Prescott, Christian McCaffrey, and Justin Jefferson. Hanson is known for his adventurous spirit, having visited six continents and engaging in activities like cage diving with great white sharks. He confessed to preferring Mexican food over Chinese food, humorously recounting an experience with duck tongue in China.
Catch ‘RedZone’ for seven hours starting at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
