San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s potential move to the Washington Commanders may have hit an obstacle. Aiyuk recently uploaded a video to social media, seemingly targeting Commanders’ quarterback Jayden Daniels by referring to him as “5” – Daniels’ jersey number.

In the video, Aiyuk stated, “‘5’ gonna text me talking about some, ‘You’re on my team now. You follow my rules.’ Boy, I’m a grown a– man, boy,” expressing his disdain for being directed by Daniels. Aiyuk further tagged Daniels in a separate post, urging him to “Turn your savage up.”

Although Aiyuk showed interest in joining Daniels on the Commanders again, saying, “Let’s run it 5! Let’s see! Need you available all szn and I’ll do the same,” his dissatisfaction poses challenges. Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the 49ers in August 2024. However, general manager John Lynch’s remarks, coupled with Aiyuk’s public discontent, complicate his trade appeal.

Aiyuk has frequently mentioned the Commanders, seemingly seeking a reunion with his former Arizona State teammate, Daniels. This development comes after Aiyuk voiced his displeasure with the 49ers, criticizing his extension and claiming the team fears releasing him.

Aiyuk’s conflict with the 49ers extends almost a year. The team voided guaranteed money on his extension after he missed rehab for major knee injuries in 2024. Subsequently, they placed him on the reserve/left team list in December following his absence from team activities.

Before his injury in 2024, Aiyuk recorded 24 catches for 374 yards. During the 2023 season, he achieved a breakout performance with 1,342 yards, 75 receptions, and seven touchdowns, playing a crucial role in the 49ers’ Super Bowl journey.
