National Dog Day and the MAHA Initiative

National Dog Day: Health and Well-being for Pets

National Dog Day is here, and discussions are buzzing around pet health. A key voice in this conversation is Sarah Goldberger, founder and CEO of Lord Jameson, an organic dog treat company. Goldberger believes dogs should be part of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative. This federal initiative emphasizes whole, nutrient-dense foods, advocating for less refined carbohydrates and artificial additives.

Natural Ingredients in Dog Treats

Goldberger’s approach centers around natural ingredients. “We have never used anything artificial,” she explains, highlighting Lord Jameson’s commitment to using real fruits and vegetables for color. Goldberger believes the nutritional priorities of MAHA will extend into the pet space, inspiring other brands to adopt healthier practices.

“My hope is that as a brand, we can inspire other pet brands to make better choices to really impact the lives and the health and wellness of dogs.” – Sarah Goldberger

Origins and Vision

Lord Jameson began in 2019, motivated by Goldberger’s late dog, Jameson. After Jameson faced health issues due to medication-induced toxicity, Goldberger wanted to offer healthier treat options made from clean, organic ingredients. Working with a homeopathic vet, she developed formulas using plant-based medicine, herbs, and botanicals, aimed at supporting dogs during healing.

Research and Development

Surveying over 1,000 pet parents, Goldberger discovered common allergies and sensitivities among dogs to animal proteins and preservatives. This insight led to the creation of treats with “completely clean ingredients, organic, gluten-free, no preservatives, no toxins, no artificial colors or flavors.” Despite the absence of preservatives, these treats boast an 18-month shelf life.

Digestive Health Benefits

Goldberger claims the treats have a positive impact on dogs’ digestive health. “Because we’re using whole-food ingredients and no preservatives, you’re going to get a nice firm poop after they eat,” she notes, echoing satisfaction from customer reviews.

Product Innovation

Lord Jameson’s product lines, including protein-inspired flavors like Love Puffs made with organic sorghum, cater to specific dietary needs such as colitis or diabetes. Its vertical integration allows the brand to manage manufacturing effectively without recent price increases or tariff issues.

Market Reach

Lord Jameson treats are available at 5,500 independent pet stores in the United States and internationally in four countries.
