FDA Concludes Investigation into Cyclosporiasis Outbreak

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has concluded its investigation into the largest recorded cyclosporiasis outbreak in the United States. This outbreak was linked to lettuce grown in Mexico and processed by Taylor Farms de Mexico.

FDA investigators found traces of the parasite in environmental samples collected from a wastewater tank and a drainage ditch. These areas were associated with the locations where the affected lettuce was cultivated. Despite finding the parasite, the agency was unable to identify the exact cause of the contamination.

The investigation focused on determining how the lettuce became contaminated. However, the FDA’s findings did not provide concrete answers regarding the contamination process.
