LIV Golf Faces Mass Layoffs Amidst Transition to LIV 2.0

LIV Golf has informed many employees that their jobs will end starting the first week of September. This follows the announcement by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) about ceasing funding for the league after the 2026 season.

LIV Golf’s 2026 season concluded on August 23 in Indianapolis. The Team Championship in Michigan was canceled, leading to an early season end.

The funding commitment announced by PIF earlier this year will reach its conclusion. As a result, we are scaling back operations as we transition to the next chapter of LIV Golf and work toward making LIV 2.0 a reality, a LIV Golf spokesperson shared.

“This week, we informed many of our colleagues that their employment under LIV 1.0 will end in the first week of September. We are grateful to our employees for their hard work and dedication in building LIV Golf, and we remain committed to supporting those affected through this transition,” a statement from LIV Golf expressed.

The leadership at LIV remains positive about the continuation of the league in 2027 with the launch of LIV 2.0. They hope that many of the laid-off employees may return.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil discussed securing a new investor and the signing of a term sheet at a press conference on August 5 before the event at Trump National Bedminster. However, specific details about this investor remain private.

LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players, O’Neil commented.

CEO Scott O’Neil observed the league’s activities in Mexico City during day three of events at Club de Golf Chapultepec.

For LIV 2.0, players will hold a majority of equity, and the 2027 schedule will include ten events. Five of these events will take place in the United States and five internationally.
