A Florida jury has found Mario Fernandez Saldana guilty of murder in the ambush killing of Microsoft executive Jared Bridegan in 2022. The verdict came on Wednesday, convicting Fernandez Saldana, who is married to Bridegan’s ex-wife, of first-degree murder and solicitation to commit a capital felony.
According to investigators, Bridegan, 33, was shot at close range in February 2022 after stopping his car on a dark road in Jacksonville Beach to remove a tire deliberately placed there. Bridegan’s 2-year-old daughter was in the back seat during the shooting but was not harmed.
Prosecutors contended that the crime resulted from a bitter custody battle between Bridegan and his ex-wife, Shanna Gardner, who is married to Fernandez Saldana. They alleged that the couple hired Henry Tenon as the gunman. Initially, Tenon had pleaded guilty but later rescinded his plea.
Fernandez Saldana was taken into custody in March 2023, followed by Gardner’s arrest in August. Both faced indictments on charges related to Bridegan’s murder. A judge decided that Gardner and Fernandez Saldana would face separate trials with different juries.
