Kennedy Expressway Exit Closed Due to Retaining Wall Collapse

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced the closure of an exit on the Kennedy Expressway after a part of a retaining wall collapsed. The closure affects the inbound Lawrence Avenue exit on Interstate 90 near Jefferson Park.

This emergency measure follows the collapse of the concrete retention wall early Saturday morning. At present, the duration of the closure remains uncertain.

“The department is inspecting the damage and evaluating the necessary repairs,” IDOT stated. “Additional information, including the scope of the repairs and the duration of any long-term closures, will be provided once the inspections are complete.”

As the Lawrence Avenue exit remains closed, IDOT advises drivers to allow more time for their journeys and use alternate routes. Motorists should exercise caution in work zones and be mindful of workers and repair equipment.
