Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere Address ‘Nepo Baby’ Discussions in Hollywood

Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere are addressing the ongoing “nepo baby” debate in Hollywood. In a cover story for Vogue’s September 2026 issue, Gerber, daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford, and Gere, son of actor Richard Gere, spoke about the challenges and perceptions linked to their careers. Both are featured in Ryan Murphy’s FX series “The Shards” and acknowledge potential criticism due to their well-known families.

Gerber, 24, candidly shared with Vogue, “I’ve always been a nepo baby, and my career has benefited from it.” She admitted to being wary of opportunities that other celebrity children receive, questioning whether they merit such chances. “Okay, show me why you deserve this job,” she remarked.

She warned Gere, her 26-year-old co-star, about the differences in perception they might face compared to unknown actors. Gerber expressed that this scrutiny has motivated her to put in even more effort.

Gerber’s career started in modeling and expanded to acting through various projects with Murphy. Conversely, Gere began differently, with little initial intention to join Hollywood, despite his father’s fame.

Living mostly away from the Hollywood spotlight, Gere’s acting career commenced after a talent manager noticed his student films while he was studying visual arts at Brown University. Winning roles in “The Shards” and HBO’s “Euphoria” marked the start of his acting journey.

Gere acknowledged that his surname influences how people view his achievements. He still questions whether his successful career is owed to the “wrong reasons,” though continued triumphs challenge this belief.

The collaboration of Gerber and Gere comes with a historical Hollywood note. At 22, Cindy Crawford began dating then 39-year-old Richard Gere. They married from 1991 to 1995 and appeared together on Vogue’s cover in 1992. Now, their children grace the same magazine cover decades later, while acting together in “The Shards.”

For Gerber, escaping comparisons with her mother and the accusations about her career path could remain difficult. Yet, she seems determined to let her performances be the testament to her talent.
