Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. — Jackson Koivun has been added to the U.S. team for the Presidents Cup, marking a significant achievement for the young golfer. This announcement comes just three months after Koivun left Auburn University. Along with Koivun, Jacob Bridgeman has joined the American team, which has maintained an unbeaten streak for 28 years.
Koivun, at 21, made headlines by securing victory at the 3M Open during his third professional start. His quick rise allowed him to qualify for the PGA Tour postseason after participating in only five tournaments. He is the first player since Jordan Spieth in 2013 to start a year without a tour card and make it to the Presidents Cup.
Brandt Snedeker, the U.S. team captain, also selected Jacob Bridgeman, another talented golfer who claimed victory at Riviera this year. Snedeker chose not to include Ryan Gerard, despite Gerard’s impressive performance in the Tour Championship and his ranking as the No. 22 player in the world.
On the International side, captain Geoff Ogilvy selected Canadians Corey Conners and Nick Taylor, alongside Ryo Hisatsune. This will be the first time since 1998 that the International team will feature two Japanese players, as Hideki Matsuyama has already secured one of the six automatic spots on the team.
The Presidents Cup is scheduled to take place from September 24 to 27 at the Medinah Country Club, which has undergone renovation by Ogilvy’s Australia-based golf course design firm.
