Iranian Regime Prefers Confrontation Over Peace

Recent developments indicate that Iran’s leadership prioritizes ongoing confrontation with the United States and its Gulf allies rather than pursuing peace. This strategy aims to manage internal dissatisfaction among its citizens. U.S. forces recently conducted airstrikes against Iran after a temporary halt in hostilities, attributed to renewed tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Dr. Majid Sadeghpour, a human rights activist and political director of the Organization of Iranian-American Communities, conveyed to Fox News Digital that Iran shows less concern about external military actions than it does about growing internal discontent.

“The real threat to the regime isn’t the external bombs, but the rising discontent and potential uprisings among Iranians,” pointed out Sadeghpour.

Guarantees from the U.S. and Continued Aggression

Sadeghpour mentioned that despite guarantees from the U.S. not to seek regime change, Iran continued its aggressive actions by attacking ships and bases in Jordan and Bahrain. This indicates the regime’s focus on internal threats over external military ones.

Internal Struggles and Uprisings

Iran has seen significant uprisings due to economic downturns, high inflation, and dissatisfaction with the strict religious governance. The government has used force to suppress anti-government protests, leading to numerous arrests and detentions, as observed by human rights groups.

The conflict with the U.S. serves as a distraction for the Iranian public, said Sadeghpour, diverting attention from domestic issues.

Challenges in the Strait of Hormuz

Despite an agreement to avoid targeting commercial ships, Iran has violated this by continuing their attacks, commented Vice President JD Vance. He noted that Iran’s hold over the Strait of Hormuz is weakening.

Vice President Vance remarked, “The Iranians are realizing their control over the strait is decreasing day by day.”

Focus on Iranian Population for Change

For effective regime change, Sadeghpour advises the U.S. to target its efforts toward empowering the Iranian populace. The regime fears the point when the population’s calmness turns into questions of how to initiate change and who will aid them in this pursuit, he explained.

U.S. Stance on Iran Negotiations

Former President Donald Trump stated he is uninterested in engaging Tehran in negotiations, suggesting that the focus should not be on obtaining an agreement with Iran, labeling any potential deal as “worthless.” He questioned when the Iranian people would rise to challenge the regime.

Marines aboard the USS New Orleans continue to conduct naval operations as tensions remain high.
