Immigrant Business Owners Plan Legal Action Against NYC Mayor Mamdani

Several immigrant business owners are preparing to sue New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani over his initiative to establish city-owned grocery stores. This information has been verified by Fox News Digital on Wednesday.

The New York Post reported that the Multicultural Business Coalition (MBC) has decided to file a lawsuit against the city. Mamdani’s plan involves the opening of five grocery stores funded by taxpayers. These stores aim to sell food at prices up to 30% lower than conventional retailers.

Frank Garcia, Chairman of the MBC, stated that the coalition plans to send a letter to Mamdani’s office. They will detail their forthcoming legal actions in order to support competing stores, bodegas, and other small businesses. If Mamdani doesn’t engage with the organization within three weeks, the group intends to escalate their legal efforts.

The commissioner said this administration is willing to speak to everyone, and they want to hear from all of us, Garcia mentioned to Fox News Digital. I’ve been trying to arrange a meeting for several months. Why haven’t they responded?

Garcia highlighted that the lawsuit transcends political affiliations and aims to raise awareness about the struggles of small business owners in New York City facing growing expenses. While the lawsuit hasn’t been filed, Garcia assured that legal teams are prepared to act after the three-week timeframe, with significant backing from various organizations.

The MBC is gathering support from diverse communities, including African, Asian, Caribbean, Hispanic, Jewish, and Middle Eastern business members. The coalition, formed earlier in the year against Mamdani’s grocery initiative, has obtained backing from New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and other leaders.

At the same time, Mamdani is under legal scrutiny from New York City landlords who contest a rent freeze he endorses.
