Colts’ Wide Receiver Alec Pierce Faces Setback with Heel Injury

The Indianapolis Colts continue their search for a win as they head into Week 3, following losses against the Baltimore Ravens and a narrow overtime defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs. The game against the Chiefs was particularly rough due to an injury sustained by one of the team’s key players, Alec Pierce.

Wide receiver Alec Pierce, unfortunately, was carted off due to a left heel injury early in the second quarter. This heel underwent surgery during the offseason, which kept Pierce out for the majority of training camp. Despite his absence, the Colts remained competitive throughout the game, indicating Pierce’s importance to the team. However, losing him could pose challenges moving forward.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that Pierce is opting for rehabilitation over surgery and is expected to be sidelined for “several weeks.” If he recuperates successfully without setbacks, Pierce might return around midseason. However, the team’s management might still consider placing him on injured reserve while assessing his progression. Surgery remains a possible option depending on how his recovery unfolds.

This injury setback hits Alec Pierce hard. Recently, he signed a four-year contract worth $114 million with the Colts, taking over the WR1 position following Michael Pittman Jr.’s departure. Pierce showcased impressive performance last year, recording 47 catches, 1,003 yards, and six touchdowns across 15 games, with an average of 21.3 yards per catch—showing why he deserved the extension.

The expectations were high for him to build on his impressive season, but now he faces missing a considerable portion of the current season. In light of Pierce’s absence, the Colts will likely shift focus to other targets such as tight end Tyler Warren, as well as receivers Josh Downs, Keenan Allen, and Darius Slayton.
