Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce suffered a setback with his surgically repaired heel during the team’s defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.
Pierce had to leave the game during the first half and did not make a return, contributing to the Colts’ 33-30 overtime loss at Arrowhead Stadium.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports Pierce aims to rehabilitate the injury without requiring further surgery. The 26-year-old receiver will likely miss several weeks, potentially rejoining the team by midseason.
Rapoport mentions, “It’s likely that Alec Pierce will head to IR while he recovers. If all goes well, he could recover without surgery. But it’s not a guarantee. Surgery is still possible.”
Following this news, Tom Pelissero reported that the Colts are acquiring veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton.
Slayton’s NFL journey began with the New York Giants, where he spent seven seasons before being released prior to their season opener. He joined the Giants in the same year as Daniel Jones, now the Colts’ quarterback.
In 2025, Slayton played 14 games, with 12 starts, amassing 37 catches for 538 yards and scoring one touchdown.
The Colts, currently standing at 0-2, are aiming for their first victory of the 2026 season against the Houston Texans in their upcoming Week 3 clash.
