Century-Old Family Heirloom Recovered

The Optimist

A precious family heirloom, a platinum ring, recently resurfaced in New York City. This ring has a rich history, dating back approximately one hundred years within Victor’s family.

Nearly a century ago, Victor’s great-grandmother took a significant risk by hiding this ring in her mouth as she departed the Soviet Union in 1989. She safeguarded it through an important chapter in history. This heirloom remained within the family, eventually finding its way to Victor, who used it to propose to his wife, Susanna, twenty years ago.

Recently, this ring was unintentionally lost but fortunately found by Javier Gomez, a sanitation worker with the New York City Department of Sanitation. This rediscovery brought relief and joy to Victor and his family.
