Actor Tim Curry Passes Away at 80

The renowned actor Tim Curry has died at the age of 80. His death was attributed to coronary artery disease, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Additional health conditions like a history of stroke and kidney cancer also contributed to his passing. Despite these health challenges, Curry never underwent surgery for these issues.

Tim Curry’s passing was confirmed by Jimmy Franco, the senior director of publicity at Grand Central Publishing. “Yes, it is true and very sad indeed,” Franco stated. He did not provide any further comments.

The Los Angeles Police Department reported responding to a death investigation at Curry’s residence. Officers arrived on the scene shortly after 11:20 p.m. The investigation did not suspect foul play.

Curry’s career launched him into pop culture stardom, most notably for his role as Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 film “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” He originated this character in the 1973 London stage production and later took it to Broadway and the silver screen. The cult film became famous for its midnight screenings and the audience’s enthusiastic participation, including singing along to hits like “The Time Warp.”

Beyond “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” Curry’s versatility shone through his performances in projects such as “It,” where he portrayed Pennywise the Clown in the 1990 miniseries. He also took on memorable roles like Wadsworth in “Clue,” the concierge in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” and Cardinal Richelieu in “The Three Musketeers.”

Throughout his career, Curry achieved accolades in various entertainment fields, receiving three Tony Award nominations for roles in “My Favorite Year,” “Amadeus,” and “Spamalot.” His remarkable work earned him a Daytime Emmy Award, plus a Primetime Emmy nomination.

In 2012, Curry suffered a major stroke, which resulted in his use of a wheelchair. Despite this setback, he continued to contribute to voice acting and made a return to live-action films with the 2024 release of “Stream.”

Tim Curry’s legacy in the entertainment world remains influential, admired by audiences and colleagues alike for his diverse roles and compelling performances.
