Aaron Rodgers Opens Up About Relationship with Shailene Woodley
During a recent podcast episode with his Pittsburgh Steelers teammate Cam Heyward, Aaron Rodgers shared candid thoughts about his past engagement with actress Shailene Woodley. The veteran quarterback met Woodley during the COVID-19 pandemic, and they moved in together quickly. In 2021, Rodgers announced their engagement, but the relationship ended about a year later.
Rodgers, 42, expressed that while Woodley agreed to his proposal, she might have felt pressured into the decision. He recounted a moment before they were set to marry when Woodley revealed her decision to leave. “I date Shailene, I propose and she says yes,” he recalled. “She maybe felt like she was forced to make a decision, she could have said no. But not a couple of days after that, she tells me before we get married like, ‘I got to go f–k this guy.’”
Rodgers addressed Woodley’s perspective, noting her claim that he caused her emotional distress, but insisted she removed the engagement ring by March. “There wasn’t even a relationship in ’22 to break off,” Rodgers said. “She literally told me I don’t want to be with you.” He also remarked, “The height of their fame was when they were with me,” referencing his previous relationships.
Shailene Woodley’s Experience Post-Relationship
While Woodley’s representatives did not comment on Rodgers’ statements, Woodley had previously spoken about the breakup in a 2022 interview with Outside magazine. She expressed the emotional turmoil of discussing her relationship with Rodgers, saying, “I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry. It was not right. But it was beautiful.”
In addition, avoiding direct mention of Rodgers in the interview, Woodley described experiencing a traumatic event in early 2022 that led to six months of depression.
The evolving narratives from both Rodgers and Woodley highlight the complexity of their relationship, which unfolded in the public eye amid personal struggles and emotional challenges.
