Chicago police arrested a 24-year-old man following a violent altercation that left a 52-year-old man critically injured in the New City neighborhood. The incident occurred on the South Side early in the morning.
Around 2:10 a.m., the two men were engaged in a heated argument outside in the 5100 block of South Emerald Avenue. The confrontation escalated, leading to a physical fight. According to police, the younger man then pulled out a weapon and fired at the older man, hitting him in the head.
The victim was transported to UChicago Medicine, where medical personnel listed him in critical condition. Law enforcement took the 24-year-old suspect into custody and announced that charges against him were pending. Police suggested that the shooting might have a domestic connection.
