A mystery in the San Bernardino Mountains has been solved. David and Annette Simpson’s dog frequently barked at night at their Southern California cabin. Surveillance footage finally revealed the reason: coyotes.
Recently, three coyotes were captured outside the Simpons’ front door, engaging in a 40-minute fight around 1 a.m. on a Sunday. The couple was away, but their security cameras recorded the nocturnal activity.
Annette Simpson admitted in an interview with KTLA, “We wonder why our dog barks in the middle of the night, and now we know.” The footage offered clear evidence of the wild encounter right outside their home.
The couple has encountered various wildlife, including bears and squirrels, but this was their first experience with coyotes near their cabin. Surprisingly, Annette was fascinated by the event, stating, “I think it’s pretty cool. We really enjoy watching the wildlife and just so close.”
Despite their interest in observing nature, the Simspons also value the safety of their own pets. Annette, who occasionally allows her cats on the patio, is reevaluating this habit after witnessing the coyotes’ presence right at their doorstep.
